6. Tower crane stabilization

INRS has published a brochure and a calculation tool for determining the "out-of-service wind" on a construction site, i.e. the maximum wind for which the crane is designed to remain stable when not in use.

Tower cranes are used to handle loads on construction sites. When the wind speed exceeds 72 km/h, the crane must be taken out of service. The crane must also be stabilized according to a maximum out-of-service wind speed defined by the user, depending on the geographical location of the site (windy or not) and its layout (presence of nearby buildings that can generate site effects).
