4. Expression of toxic hazard

DANGER = static notion of potentiality

Intrinsic property of a chemical substance, set of physical and toxicological characteristics presenting a potential hazard.

RISK = dynamic notion of contingency

All the circumstances that allow the expression of a potential danger.

RISQUE = DANGER×EXPOSITION

For some substances identified as endocrine disruptors and/or genotoxic, the dose/intensity relationship is not directly applicable. A single exposure to a low dose may be enough to trigger deleterious biological effects.
