5. Controlling pollution sources
5.1 Source delimitation
To assess the relevance of the source control measures to be implemented, it is first necessary to have identified the nature, volume and type of source to be managed. Site diagnosis, based on historical studies and field sampling, enables us to identify, locate and characterize the sources and types of pollution causing environmental damage.
Prior to any action, the following questions must be answered:
Have all (potential) sources of pollution been taken into account?
If necessary, have the various physical environments been taken into account?
Are the most contaminated areas recognized?
