9. Conclusion

The year 2022 broke all records in terms of maple syrup production, with 72 million pounds (24.74 million liters), compared with 61 million pounds in 2021 (20.96 million liters), with sales exceeding $90 million. Canadian exports also hit record highs in 2021, at 58 million liters. Despite this, Quebec supply is insufficient to satisfy growing demand for a product that is emblematic of Quebec, enjoys a good reputation and an excellent brand image. We could legitimately congratulate ourselves on such results, especially in view of the future development potential.

This is not the case, however, as the maple syrup industry faces major concerns and challenges for decades to come. The Producteurs et Productrices Acéricoles du Québec (PPAQ) are worried when the government declares that it will devote only 24,000 hectares of forest, while maple syrup producers are calling...
