2. Waste classification

There is a wide variety of types of waste, which can be classified according to different criteria: waste producer, waste properties, sector in which the waste is produced. This classification makes it possible to distinguish the rules applicable by those involved in waste management, and to modulate these rules according to the producer's capabilities and the risks associated with handling the waste.

2.1 Classification by waste producer

Waste can be divided into two classes:

  • household waste whose initial producer is a household ;

  • waste from economic activities whose initial producer is not a household.
