    Overview

    ABSTRACT

Availability of steam at any time and maximum energy efficiency are fundamental aims for all thermal power station managers. Among the parameters affecting the performance levels of these two objectives, the treatment of boiler water can be regarded as of first order, like combustion or preventive maintenance. This article gives readers some technical tools to address issues affecting boiler water treatment programs, such as what dysfunctions impair reliability and efficiency, what treatment solutions exist, how a follow-up program is built, and how to engage in partnerships with water treatment companies.

    AUTHOR

     INTRODUCTION

Boiler conditioning is often summarized as "boiler water treatment". In fact, this simplistic shorthand expresses only part of the subject, both in terms of the nature of the fluid to be treated, and that of the steam or energy production tool. Indeed, steam and energy production involves a cycle of successive changes of state. Our aim will be to propose methods for selecting treatments to ensure the durability of equipment handling the different fluid states: liquid, steam, condensate, superheated water, both in terms of water pre-treatments and the additives used. Specific treatments will be proposed according to the energy production tools used: live steam production, electrical energy production, district heating, etc.

We'll be looking at the subject from both the boiler manufacturer's and the water treatment company's perspective: how to space out maintenance shutdowns? Optimizing efficiency? Energy recovery from blowdown? Automating monitoring?
