1.1 Product description

Pond farming, particularly of carp in China, is a very old practice (1000 BC), also found much later among the Romans in Assyrian fishponds. Industrialization in the 19th century generated a great deal of pollution, which severely affected fish populations in rivers. To remedy this critical situation, scientific work began on the artificial reproduction of trout, using hatcheries to repopulate rivers. At the end of the 1950s, the development of pellets revolutionized what was then known as "fish farming", usually land-based, with hard-built basins connected to a river. In fact, aquaculture of marine species, a concept that encompasses animal husbandry and plant cultivation in an aquatic environment, really took off in the 70s, with the use of floating cages/networks...
