7. Sustainable palm oil sourcing

Today, processors have four different strategies for sourcing RSPO-certified oil, with varying degrees of rigor and implementation costs.

7.1 Book and Claim

Manufacturers and retailers incorporating palm oil into their products can bid online to purchase certificates from certified plantations (figure 10 ). The user buys these certificates (1 per tonne) and pays (via RSPO) a premium directly to producers to encourage sustainable production and finance the certification of new members.
