The large-scale plantation programs currently underway in Africa (Liberia, Angola, Gabon, Cameroon) also pose a growing threat to forests . Indeed, the growing number of regulations prohibiting the conversion of natural forests, the shortage of land, the monitoring of major land acquisitions, and the hopes raised by Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) in major producing countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia, are prompting major Asian companies to diversify their production zones and invest in Africa.
