3. Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSI)
Technical Specifications for Interoperability (TSIs) are the texts set out in European Directives 1996/48 and 2001/16 (both amended by Directive 2004/50) issued by the European Railway Agency concerning the interoperability of the European rail system. These two directives stipulate that the railway system is divided into five subsystems:
infrastructure ;
energy ;
control and command ;
rolling stock ;
operation.
A Technical Specification for Interoperability (TSI) is drawn up for each subsystem or part of a subsystem. These TSIs apply the essential requirements of the above-mentioned European directives to specific cases, and define a set of technical requirements that apply...
