1.1 Definition and clinical background
Dandruff refers to abnormal scales or clusters of corneocytes. In this type of situation, cell turnover is accelerated (from 28 days to 1 week). These are known as squamous states. Dandruff is not a disease. The shampoos used to treat it can therefore be considered cosmetics.
There are two different clinical states:
dry dandruff or pytiriasis capitis simplex, which falls off spontaneously;
