7. Optimizing meta tags
In HTML, "meta" tags are used to provide search engines with a certain amount of information about the content of a web page. "meta" is short for "metadata". These tags therefore indicate information about information.
7.1 Less importance of meta tags today
It's important to note that meta tags are less important to search engines today than they were a few years ago. Too many frauds have been perpetrated through this zone and, little by little, the engines have grown weary of taking into consideration areas of information which should have been highly relevant and which, in the end, turned into a "spam reservoir"... In any case, Google takes neither the "keywords" meta tag (which it doesn't read at all) nor the "description" meta tag into account in its relevance...
