1.1 Definitions
A thesaurus is a list of words or expressions used as terms in a particular field of knowledge or discipline, field of activity or institutional or organizational environment. The term is the verbal representation of a concept.
"School bus", "Marketing", "Shale gas" and "Internal combustion engine" are just some of the terms used.
Van Slype defines the thesaurus by its main function, that of "unambiguously representing the content of documents and questions in a given documentary system, and [...] assisting the user in indexing documents and questions"
