3. Design and development
Developing a thesaurus is a complex operation. The nature, thematic coverage and specificity required are the main factors influencing the duration, complexity and cost of the operation.
3.1 Standards and guidelines
There are a number of guiding principles that are considered essential to the project of developing a thesaurus. Compliance with the guidelines ensures that the thesaurus is internally consistent and structurally compatible with similar tools.
