Evaluation and updating are essential functions of thesaurus management. The best-structured and most appropriate thesaurus will eventually fall by the wayside if it is not regularly updated.
5.1 Types and methods of assessment
The structural evaluation aims to confirm that the lexicon terms and the thesaurus structure conform to standards. This objective evaluation must be complemented by a more subjective assessment of the thesaurus' effectiveness as a research aid. Comparative evaluation involves comparing several thesauri (or a thesaurus and other types of document language) describing the same semantic field.
