9. Mobile GPRS
GPRS mobile terminals are divided into classes corresponding to their usage rate. This rate depends on the number of time slots that can be used by a given mobile during a GPRS session. Twelve classes are distinguished, corresponding to the possible combinations of one to four timeslots on the downlink channel with one to four timeslots on the uplink channel. Table 2 gives details of these different classes. The "active time slots" column indicates the maximum number of simultaneous time slots that the mobile can support for the uplink and downlink channels. This number is less than or equal to the sum of the two preceding numbers, and shows that in the case of simultaneous bidirectional transmission, the throughput on the downlink channel - generally the most demanding - can be affected.
