5. Wood industry

Mechanically ventilated hut dryers are very common in the wood industry, and include the following main types (figure 18 ):

  • one or two drying cells equipped with baffles (1) judiciously positioned to ensure correct air circulation and homogeneous drying;

  • one or more large-diameter helical fans (2) inside the dryer, blowing air over the entire height of the stacks perpendicular to the wood fibers;

  • an optional steam or water spray injection device. It is used for specific needs: humidification before drying of re-dried lumber with closed pores, surface humidification of lumber with defects when drying too quickly, generation of a very humid atmosphere at the start of drying...
