7. Urban tunnels with authorized clearance less than (or equal to) 3.50 m
These tunnels are normally closed to TDG.
Three gauges are used: 2 m, 2.70 m and 3.50 m. Smoke extraction systems are required for tunnels longer than 300 m, and safety provisions are governed by the same rules as for other tunnels.
7.1 Differences requiring special provisions
Here are 3 points to consider:
emergency vehicle access for tunnels with a gauge of 2 to 2.7 m, which do not allow the use of standard fire-fighting vehicles: only asphyxiated and injured rescue vehicles (VSAB) can enter tunnels with a gauge of 2.70 m.
