4. Evacuating and protecting users
4.1 Miscellaneous facilities and emergency access
These facilities will be provided systematically and access to them arranged every :
around 200 m in urban tunnels. In frequently congested tubes with more than three traffic lanes in each direction, a shorter distance will be used, depending on the number of passengers to be evacuated;
approximately 400 m, in non-urban tunnels over 500 m long. In the event of low traffic levels, adaptations may be envisaged, depending on the difficulties involved.
Doors between the tunnel and these facilities must remain closed when not in use. They must be capable of being opened by any user who needs to enter them.
