2.1 Pavements and sidewalks
For tunnels on the trans-European road network, gradients must be less than 5%, unless geographically impossible.

Sidewalks
A sidewalk must be provided to the right of each direction of traffic, to enable users in distress who have to leave their vehicles to reach safety equipment while remaining outside the lateral traffic gauge. This sidewalk, with a maximum height of 0.25 m, must not be separated from the roadway by a kerb exceeding this height, and its minimum width, beyond the lateral traffic clearance gauge, must be 0.60 m at ground level and 0.75 m at a height of 1.50 m above ground level.
