5.1 Action of hydraulic binders

In the presence of water, cements and hydraulic road binders (HRBs) give treated materials a permanent cohesion known as "hydraulic setting", the extent and quality of which depend on :

  • the nature of the material processed ;

  • the type of binder used ;

  • the quantity of binder introduced into the mixture ;

  • the amount of water required to hydrate the binder ;

  • the quality of the ground material after processing;

  • the compactness achieved during processing;

  • the temperature of the medium and the age of the mixture....
