INTRODUCTION
In addition to standardized cements, the 1980s saw the development of binders known as "road hydraulic binders" (LHR), specially developed for in-place or central soil treatment, for the production of road base materials and for cold in-place recycling of old pavements.
These are composite binders obtained by mixing and/or grinding clinker or industrial by-products (slag, pozzolans, fly ash, etc.).
The principles of action of hydraulic road binders are not fundamentally different from those of cements, since they contain the same constituents, albeit in different proportions, and thus hydraulic setting phenomena of the same nature, but most often with specific kinetics.
Hydraulic road binders are covered by two European standards:
NF EN 13282-1 "Rapid kinetic hydraulic road binders – Composition, specification and conformity criteria";
NF EN 13282-2 "Normal kinetic hydraulic road binders – Composition, specification and conformity criteria".
These binders have become increasingly popular in recent years, as they offer a number of technical and economic advantages. We'll take a closer look in this dossier.
