4. Key features

Hydraulic road binders are characterized by a certain number of criteria measured conventionally, either on powder, paste or "normal mortar" (standardized mixture of hydraulic road binder, sand and water defined by European standard NF EN 196-1).

4.1 Powder characteristics

  • Specific surface area (Blaine fineness)

    It is used to measure the fineness of grind of a hydraulic road binder. It is characterized by the specific surface or total developed surface of all the grains contained in one gram of binder (European standard NF EN 196-6). It is expressed in cm 2 /g. Depending on the type of binder, this value is generally between 2,800 and 5,000 cm 2...
