12. Equipment sizing

This point is crucial for improving the energy performance of a plant. For safety reasons, the installed power of equipment is calculated taking into account a margin. This margin is often overestimated. It can also happen that the choice of motorization proposed by the manufacturer is guided by a concern for financial margin rather than the energy efficiency of the equipment. When these factors are taken into account, the power of a motor may be overestimated in relation to the real need (sometimes by a factor of 5 to 10).

To obtain the best energy performance, it's essential to limit these margins to a reasonable level, and to check the match between needs and installed power.
