5. Energy performance indicators

Associated with the company's overall energy balance and its profile for a given period (usually 1 year), the overall energy performance indicator (EPI) is calculated in relation to the activity corresponding to energy consumption, i.e. the ratio between the latter and production, for example. It can therefore be expressed, for example, in kWh/tonne produced, or kWh/tonne of raw materials, or kWh/linear metre...

The EPI for an office building will be calculated in kWh/m 2 . It can also be based on the number of users (kWh/employee, for example).

More specific EPIs can be calculated for a given energy use: heating, compressed air, process, drying, etc., by selecting the relevant indicators. For example: for drying, energy consumption will be expressed per kg of evaporated water; for compressed...
