The World Health Organization estimates that half the world's population suffers from oral pathologies, and that some 532 million children have dental caries ; Streptococcus mutans is the bacterium most often responsible for these caries. To combat this, a randomized study of 245 7-year-olds was carried out: one cohort chewed placebo tablets containing vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), while another chewed pyridoxine tablets plus a postbiotic based on Lactobacillus and Streptococcus. After 2 years, the authors observed a 45% reduction in caries in the children of the second cohort
