4. Organizations concerned

Several government bodies are involved in nuclear safety. Working closely together, they have complementary responsibilities.

4.1 General Secretariat for Defense and National Security

The General Secretariat for National Defense and Security (SGDSN) is a department of the French Prime Minister. It is responsible for interministerial coordination of defense and security policy, including nuclear crisis management planning. In this capacity, the SGDSN is responsible for drawing up regulations governing vital activities, including the definition of reference threats. The SGDSN is also responsible for defining confidentiality policy and drawing up the associated implementation rules.
