The raw material, i.e. elementary conductors or wires, are presented in the form of reels or, more rarely, wires wound in octabins (octagonal cardboard boxes on pallets into which wires are wound with a diameter of 1 m) at the entrance to the extrusion line. The primary function of reels is to ensure continuous supply of conductor, wire or cable to the line. Depending on the application, different reels are used (figure 1 ).

In the case of fiber optics or mechanically sensitive wires, each reel consists of an axle perpendicular to the direction of the line, on which a spool is fixed. As the wire is fragile, the spindle is driven in rotation by a motor (usually AC), whose speed is regulated by a pneumatic actuator to ensure constant tension.
