5. Cooling
Once deposited on the conductive core, the insulation or sheathing material must be cooled before the cable can be wound. This is achieved by passing the wire (or cable) through cooling trays (figure 21 ).
Sprinkling is often used instead of immersion for small cross-section wires and cables (diameter < 2 mm), as it results in higher cooling efficiency. Moreover, a cable immersed in water is subject to significant drag forces, which can lead to plastic deformation of the wire (wire elongation).
When designing the line, it will be necessary to dimension the length of the tanks. Vats that are too short won't cool the wire or cable sufficiently, and can cause deformation during the subsequent winding stage. On the other hand, bins...
