4. Hazardous materials packaging

This packaging corresponds to category 8 of the SEI specifications. They concern products classified as "dangerous goods" which, by their nature, require specific packaging and regulated packaging depending on the mode of transport used, i.e. :

Land transport: CITMD and OCTI regulations / ROI and ADR codes;
maritime transport: IMO regulations / IMDG code ;
air transport: ICAO regulations / IATA code.

For the packaging of these products [19] , the manufacturer must provide the packer with all the necessary information concerning their classification, to enable him to apply correctly the various national and international regulations in force.

Organization of the profession

Packers have a long history in France.

In 1521, under the reign of François 1 ^er , the statutes governing the profession are mentioned, under the terms "layetier écrinier" and then "layetier emballeur" (the term "layette" was used to designate boxes incorporating trays for storing linen).
