Overview
ABSTRACT
The organization and installation of a packaging chain includes a series of stages. This article is dedicated to end-of-line machines in the packaging chain. In particular, the case of glass or plastic bottles, various vials as well as that of cardboard cases and boxes/crates (supply, transportation, cartoners, shrink-wrappers, product collating systems, palletizers, secondary packaging, etc.) are dealt with. A paragraph is also dedicated to the management of packaging lines and another to end-of-line conveyors. The packaging lines can be automated or semi-automated; in the last case certain stages are handmade. This article is illustrated by general cases and special systems.

INTRODUCTION
The general organization and layout of a packaging line comprises a series of steps.
In the
conveyor feed;
unit pack detection, counting, control... ;
grouping of unit packs ;
case packing (in cardboard boxes) ;
the multipack carton ;
shrink-wrapping and bundling ;
palletizing and overwrapping.
In this dossier, we focus on the following cases:
glass or plastic bottles, various flasks;
cardboard cartons or boxes/crates.
These are cases that concern mass production, such as for foodstuffs. But the same operations can also be found, albeit at lower production rates, in other industries such as cosmetics, parachemistry and household products. We are therefore also studying slower packaging lines, where certain stages can be carried out partly by hand, while others are automated or semi-automated.
