The revenue model is at the heart of the business model on which the business plan is based. It can be very simple when a company has a homogeneous activity (e.g. an ice cream parlour), and become more complex when the company offers a varied range of products (as in the following case).
The company may also have several sources of revenue, in which case we speak of a multi-faceted model: a national daily newspaper, for example, combines single-issue sales and subscriptions, advertising, press subsidies... or even spin-off products, consulting services, events or training. A daily newspaper has at least two types of customer: readers and advertisers.
