2. Water uses
2.1 Hydroelectric power
Tunisia has neither large rivers nor sites suitable for the continuous production of hydropower. Several small-scale projects have been carried out in connection with the construction of reservoir dams in the north of the country. The technically exploitable hydropower potential is estimated at 250 GWh, of which 160 GWh is economically feasible, and the currently installed capacity is still limited to 70 MW. Hydroelectric power accounts for almost 1% of the country's total energy output, and is set to grow further with the rising cost of fossil fuels.
