6. Incidents and accidents
The Charter of the Environment enshrined in the French Constitution of 1958 states that "all persons must, under the conditions defined by law, prevent the damage they are likely to cause to the environment or, failing that, limit its consequences". The regulatory obligations resulting from accidents or incidents at classified facilities are fully in line with this principle of prevention.
6.1 Accident notification
The operator of a classified facility subject to authorization, registration or declaration must report any accidents or incidents arising from the operation of his facility as soon as possible to the Environmental Inspectorate (article R. 512-69 of the Environmental Code).
