The general approach to health risk assessment, initially described in the "Silver Book" by the American Academy of Sciences , has been translated in France into several reference guides (available at http://www.developpement-durable.gouv.fr ) for use in the prevention of risks related to toxic substances emitted into the environment, in particular :
an integrated approach to assessing the state of the environment and the health risks associated with chemical substances emitted by classified facilities
