1. French standardization system

1.1 Standard: a reference document

In the decree defining the organization of standardization (decree no. 84-74, see [Doc. G 1 010] ), standardization is defined as follows:

"The purpose of standardization is to provide reference documents containing solutions to technical and commercial problems concerning products, goods and services that repeatedly arise in relations between economic, scientific, technical or social partners."
