1. Nomenclature of classified installations

The list of classified facilities is set out in a nomenclature that lists activities subject to authorization (A) or declaration (D), depending on the level of risk and/or nuisance that their operation may generate.
Since the imperial decree of 1810, this nomenclature has undergone successive changes. From an alphabetical coding system with numbers ranging from 1 to 418, since 1992 it has included substances and preparations (in the context of their use and/or storage) coded from 11XX to 18XX, and branches of activity coded from 21XX to 29XX.
Other changes have also led to the emergence of sub-categories, i.e. activities...
