1. What is a GMO?
1.1 Definition
A genetically modified organism (GMO) is a living organism whose genetic material has been altered other than by natural multiplication or recombination, i.e. by modifying the expression of one of its genes or by adding a foreign gene.
DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) is the carrier of genetic information transmitted from generation to generation. The gene is the basic unit of this information.

Analysis times are generally between four and eight days. Costs can vary according to the nature of the sample (extraction protocols need to be adapted) and the specificity of the test required: qualitative or quantitative detection, or even identification of the transgenic variety. The range is between 1,000 and 3,000 F.
