Carrageenans are a natural component of certain species of red marine algae in the Gigartinaceae, Solieriaceae, Phyllophoraceae, Hypneaceae, Furcellariaceae, Rhabdoniaceae, Rhodophyllidaceae and some Rhodomelaceae families. .
