ABSTRACT
Like elastic solids, all industrial structures and installations are subjected to vibrations, either the ones they generate ( oscillating internal force produced by the unbalance of a rotating shaft, the interaction of gear teeth, etc.) or the ones they are subjected to due to their environment (external oscillating force produced by an adjacent engine, the bearing of a pipe, etc.). This article provides a qualitative description of the main vibratory phenomena, their propagation and attenuation. It then focuses on the disruptions caused; in certain cases the effects can be positive. It also presents certain notions of acoustics which allow for the providing of solutions to noise nuisances induced by the vibrations of industrial structures.

All industrial structures and installations are subject to vibration, whether generated by themselves or by their environment.
The aim of this article is to give a qualitative description of the main vibratory phenomena. The paragraph 4 provides some basic acoustics for dealing with the problems of noise disturbance induced by the vibration of industrial structures.
