5. Impact monitoring and environmental measures
The environmental impact of work and the effectiveness of environmental measures must be monitored. This means defining monitoring methods and indicators as far upstream as possible. Scientific monitoring is a standard part of environmental support measures.
5.1 Monitoring themes and protocols
Monitoring themes will depend on the expected impact of the work, as well as on environmental measures. As far as possible, monitoring should be carried out according to recognized protocols, particularly with regard to the quality of physical environments (air, water, soil) and species of flora and fauna, whether terrestrial or marine.
