12. Too much energy for the home
Housing is a major energy consumer. In France, over 43% of primary energy is used to heat or cool buildings and produce domestic hot water. Approximately 1/3 is used in the tertiary sector and 2/3 in the residential sector. For the latter, 1/3 corresponds to apartment buildings and 2/3 to single-family homes. Figure 26 shows the breakdown of energy consumption for 2015. It can be seen that 80% of energy is used for housing and transport.
