9. Electricity

Electricity is not an energy source, but an energy carrier increasingly used in modern society. The large number of electrical and electronic devices, or devices using electronics, and the many electric motors present in modern life need electricity to operate. This craze for the use of electricity is reflected in the fact that annual growth in electricity demand outstrips that of primary energy. Figure 16 shows the very significant growth in electricity consumption in France after the end of the Second World War. In half a century, it multiplied by a factor of around 25.
