2. Imidazole and triazole derivatives

The family of azole derivatives includes compounds with a wide variety of therapeutic activities (figure 3 ), and it may seem difficult at first sight to predict what type of properties a newly synthesized imidazole or triazole compound will display simply by examining its structural formula. Nevertheless, a careful analysis of the various groups attached to the azole rings enables us to define its potential activity profile fairly precisely.
