3. Production of astatine-211-labeled radiopharmaceuticals

3.1 Radiolabeling chemistry with astatine-211

It was soon observed that the radiochemical synthesis methods classically used to radiolabel compounds with iodine radioisotopes could also be employed with astatine, in particular for the formation of carbon-halogen bonds. Radiolabeling approaches involving the formation of an astate-carbon covalent bond have enabled the creation of many compounds of interest for 211 At delivery. However, because the stability of this binding mode is sometimes insufficient, investigations are underway to propose more suitable alternatives for future use in patients.
