4.1 Animal studies

As radioactive iodine can be used alone in the form of iodide for thyroid imaging or thyroid tumor therapy, due to its strong tropism for this organ, a number of studies initially focused on the use of injected 211-astatine alone for thyroid treatments, as astatine also accumulates in the thyroid .
