9. Financing and taxation

RDI funding [AG 470] and its difficulties are regularly raised by companies. However, R&D is strongly supported by regions, states and the European Union. There are four types of funding. Firstly, internal financing, or self-financing. This can sometimes be split into a portion of own funds aimed at maintaining skills, developing tools and building knowledge, and a portion of internal customers, who may be project managers, sales or production staff, and who are directly related to the products under development. This financing constitutes the bulk of an RDI entity's budget. The second type corresponds to an external clientele operating on the basis of calls for projects, generally involving partnerships.
