2. Refractory ceramics design and components

Refractory ceramics are highly heterogeneous ceramics, always polyphase, with a skeleton of particles (called "aggregates") of graded particle size . These particles range in size from a few hundred micrometers to a few millimeters. The aggregates are bound by a matrix of finer particle size. To achieve maximum compactness, the particle size distribution of the raw materials is determined using stacking models (Furnas, Hughan, Andreasen, Fuller-Bollomey models).
