 INTRODUCTION

Laminates based on unsaturated polyesters, vinyl esters, epoxies and various thermoplastic polymers, thanks to their excellent performance (physical, mechanical, etc.) and their chemical and corrosion resistance (cf. and ) are used in all industries requiring resistance to water, corrosion and the many chemicals used.

In order to help our readers study their problems, design their equipment and come up with ideas for uses, we will review a large number of applications, not only in the fields of chemical engineering, construction and anticorrosion, but also in other industries where materials resistant to more or less aggressive or corrosive products are required, for example :

  • the automotive industry, where bodies have to resist weathering and corrosion;

  • mechanical engineering, where materials must be resistant to oils and greases, and even other fluids;

  • the food industry, where materials have to withstand certain aggressive products such as vinegar, sauces and acids. And we've also included shipbuilding, where materials have to withstand seawater for very long periods of time;

  • and we've also included shipbuilding, where materials have to withstand seawater for very long periods.

For each application, we'll outline the advantages of the various resins and formulas, the techniques used or likely to be used in the future, and the possibilities and new developments.

We often refer the reader to the article . Chemical and corrosion resistance of composite materials, as well as the tables in article .
