 INTRODUCTION

Worldwide production of magnesium castings currently accounts for around 31% of total magnesium use. This figure has risen sharply since the early 1990s, due to the sharp increase in die-casting production.

For a very long time, magnesium alloy foundry was an aeronautical industry. While it has retained a reputation for sometimes costly control, in reality this avant-garde position has ensured it a reputation for quality in the manufacture of objects in much more common use (automotive industry, sports industry, etc.).
